GeoPath's description

Trails & Grounds Open Sunrise to Sunset, Closed Federal Holidays

Established in 1936 by executive order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Patuxent Research Refuge is the nation's only national wildlife refuge established to support wildlife research. The National Wildlife Visitor Center is a science and environmental education center providing visitors with opportunities to explore, discover, and learn.

Trail Guide - Print before you and save the refuge the expense. There are about 6 miles of trails, but you won't need to cover them all.

There are 6 caches in this GeoPath, but you'll only need to find 5. This is to allow you to complete it even if you visit when the actual Visitor Center is closed.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Visitor Center will not be open.

The caches were originally placed in 2014 with the cooperation of Amy Shoop of the Patuxent Research Refuge.

Please provide input on your experience with the cache and during your visit, in general, in your log. For additional information about the refuge and activities there, you may contact Amy_Shoop@fws.gov.

Happy Trails!
